Poll Watch: So Far, So Good

Things could not look better for Republicans eight months away from the general election. John McCain is now leading likely Democrat nominee Barack Obama in the most recent national polls, and is really handing it to him in the vital swing states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida. And he's clobbering Hillary by ten points in the latest Rasmussen poll.

And in addition to those polls, came the sobering news that 20 percent of Democrats say they are likely to vote for John McCain if their candidate does not get the nomination. This according to a recent FMC poll. Things really are not looking so bad for the GOP this year, at least not so far. Six months ago, who would have guessed that the Republican nominee would be leading both democrats in every national poll? And perhaps to a more important question: Who except John McCain could have garnered such support so quickly?
