In a recent email blast done by Rick Noriega's campaign, Mark Bell (campaign manager) foolishly asserts that Noriega is within 2% pts of beating Cornyn!!
::giggles::
Bell writes: "Noriega just 2 points behind John Cornyn.1 The poll also shows Cornyn running at 38%, a shockingly low number for an incumbent..." This is according to the Texas Lyceum poll. Bell agrees that Cornyn does indeed have millions more in the bank but that can easily be overcome. Rasmussen Report says the following as of June 9th: "The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state find Cornyn leading Democratic state legislator Rick Noriega 52% to 35%. That’s a significant improvement for the incumbent from a month ago when his lead dwindled to four percentage points. "
Bell continues with: "But that's not all: 24% of those polled are undecided voters, and it's critical that they learn more about Rick." Rasmussen counters: "Cornyn is supported by 86% of Republicans and has a two-to-one edge among unaffiliated voters. Last month, his lead among the unaffiliateds was just four percentage points. Noreiga attracts 72% of Democrats, down from 81% a month ago. "
It's easy to see that this Lyceum poll is about as reliable as Russ' grandmother on a surf board.
The sooner Camp Noriega realizes that they do not have a snowballs chance in hell against Cornyn (and his money), the sooner they can save themselves the embarrassment they'll certainly face in November. Otherwise they'll be known as "that guy who was put up by the TDP to lose to Cornyn".

I don't about this one. While I'm certainly not a Noriega supporter I don't think you can blame the guy for trying. It's not like he's committing fraud or anything, and it's the party's money he's wasting. If the roles were reversed, I'd be pissed if the Republican underdog didn't put up a fight, even if the outcome was inevitable.
I do agree that the Party is wasting their resources...but since it's not my Party, I don't much care. I would expect my party to pick someone who stood a chance and could motivate the people. If you watch the clip from the Texas Demo. State convention where Noriega gave the keynote address...his idea of motivation is basically yelling a sentence...while wearing a tie.
This guy is just so disconnected from what the district wants and needs...his campaign is basically full of crap...granted this is a good year for demos to take back the White House...Obama is struggling to keep up and beat McCain...what makes Noriega think he can take down one of Texas' best loved Powerhouses?
Noriega probably sees this contest as a potential repeat of the Allen v. Webb race in 06. He's hoping that Cornyn will do some stupid things to hurt his candidacy. I realllly hope John fires the guy who thought of the "Big John" video. IMHO, it was horrible.
That's pretty much all Noriega's campaign is running on at this point: Hope. Big John's got the money to gotv and activate the Republican base which will most likely be out during this critical election year. We shall see.
