In a sad attempt to get the party to rally behind Rick Noriega, the Texas Democratic Party made him the keynote speaker at their Convention this past week.
Noriega who is "challenging" incumbent John Cornyn in November put on his best "please elect me, sympathy tie" and went before the flock of Texas Demos to rally support. Noriega must appear so desperate because he currently is 10 points behind Senator Cornyn in the polls and significantly behind Cornyn in fundraising...I'd be sad too (mas triste). This is sad attempt on behalf of the Texas Democratic Party...couldn't they have picked someone who even remotely resembles a winner to give their main address? This just screams: "slim pickins"...
So in his speech he addresses the many wrongs facing Texas and the nation which are clearly Cornyn-Bush's' fault...(Noriega adopted the Obama camps "hyphenated" approach to tie Senator Cornyn to the Bush Administration as often as possible).
According to Noriega, gas prices have reached an all time high, since Cornyn's been in office...Who wants to be the pragmatist who let's Noriega in on the fact that Congress has been under Demo control since 2006 and gas prices have only gone up since they were elected...regardless of their endless campaign promises to end the war in Iraq and lower gas prices...
He blasts Cornyn for failing to vote for the Minimum Wage bill, which has recently put the country in the highest unemployment spike in the last 4 years...THANKS Dems!
He cited the number of drop out rates over the last 4 years, stating that half of the high schoolers who started school didn't graduate...Two words Noriega: SCHOOL CHOICE. He continues to whine about Republicans spending money for education on Gyms rather than teachers or new schools...first of all those decisions have NOTHING to do with party lines...they are made at the hands of the Independent School Districts and their governing Boards...but then again, why would we expect Noriega to be honest and tell the truth because if he did that he wouldn't have any grounds to attack Senator Cornyn in the first place. He claims we need more money for public education...throwing more money at a broken system isn't going to help anything. We need to reform education and give parents a choice rather than hoping the flaud program will get better.
He critisizes Cornyn for 'not voting for the new GI Bill'...when in actuality Cornyn did...he just didn't vote for the GI Bill Noriega would have liked him to vote for...RUF has done several posts on why the Webb-Hagel bill is an utter failure. McCain's alternative was much more feasable, practical and helpful for our soldiers.
He jumps at the chance to discuss Border Security and Immigration. He slams Cornyn for voting for the fence because it promotes "fear and intolerance". No, what it promotes is legal immigration and safety for our American citizens which should be at the top of the prioriety list for any American servicemen. He states that immigrants need to "play by the rules" when they come here...THANK YOU! That's what ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION is all about! I've said this time and time again, if they can't respect the rules which govern entry into this country what makes us think they will respect the rule of law once they are here?
He goes on to talk about the war in Iraq by stating that we need to get out of Iraq as soon as possible and that the Iraqi people need to start handling the conflict themselves. Any good military strategists will tell you that by leaving Iraq in that state its in will create a vaccum of power that will allow for corrupt people to assume power and terrorists to take over as it has been historically proven time and time again...shouldn't a military man know this? The Iraqi people have been stepping it up and so have our troops which is why May showed the lowest casualty rate for American and Iraqi soldiers as well as civilians, but of course Noriega failed to mention that as well.
Noriega gives us no incite whatsoever to prove that he can bring anything to the table aside from pointing out "flaws"...He fails to mention any alternative to funding for public education, an exit strategy for Iraq, plans for seniors and Social Security, or Illegal Immigration...
WAKE UP NORIEGA! That's why you are behind Senator Cornyn by 10+ points in the polls AND that's why your campaign contributions are miniscule compared to Cornyn...you are not capable of doing the job and Texans KNOW THAT.
I'd say stick to what you know, but that would be pointless for obvious reasons.
Oh and PS, that tie was horrible on camera...
