Texas news:
State Rep. Joe Driver (R-Garland) says college and university policies which ban concealed handguns are counterproductive.
"I just want to eliminate this gun free zone that makes predators feel that they can just come in and extract life the way they fell like it," Driver said.
There's a push for this law to get passed in Texas. What say the students?
Young Conservatives of Texas member Austin Smith says:
Why is it ok to say the constitution is in violation of state and university laws? The state laws are in violation of the constitution and should be struck down.
If someone brings a gun to a classroom, and shoots the instructor in front of 400 other people, and 30 of them legally own guns, the violence ends immediately.
Gunmen only shoot up gun-free zones.
And Virginia Tech student and good friend of mine Allison Aldrich says:
As a female on a campus that doesn't allow me to carry a gun, I risk getting raped, robbed or shot by criminals who don't give a damn about your supposed restrictions on guns on campus.
That is wonderful that you don't trust a student with a firearm to defuse a treacherous scene. Who, then, DO you trust?
Do you trust the police? Because I personally saw the police scrambling around on my campus after the first shootings with no idea where the shooter was headed.
With police response times as they are (and that is in no way their fault) people are ultimately responsible for their own security. I would rather be armed and ready to protect myself, even if it does make people like you a little squeamish to see someone with a gun.

Rep. Driver's comments in conclusion:
And Nationally:He says the hysterical predictions of 'Wild West gun battles' on the streets which accompanied the approval of the state's concealed carry law have not materialized, and he sees no reason by the same hysterical predictions of gun battles in classrooms and dorms would materialize either.
The Pathetic Pelosi led Democrat Congress scored the astonishing, amazing, sensational and...single digit approval rating of a just 9%.
In fact says Rasmussen Reports:
Most voters (52%) say Congress is doing a poor job, which ties the record high in that dubious category.
My friends at FreedomWorks had some ideas as to why this rating is so low:
While there are a lot of things that could be attributed to this continuing downward spiral, here is a list of 5 Congressional activities (covered by FreedomTalks) from the last six months that might have played a role.
1.) Failed Earmark Reform: Despite efforts by Senator Jim DeMint, Congress was unwilling to pass a bill that would place a one year moratorium on earmark spending.
2.) Attempts to Pass Cap and Trade: Even though gas prices were looming at $4 per gallon, the Senate still tried to push a bill that had the potential to raise the price of gas by $.50 per gallon. Luckily, this was blocked and removed from the floor.
3.) Federal Reserve/JP Morgan Chase Bear Stearns Bailout: Bear Stearns was clearly bankrupt, but the Federal Reserve’s loan allowed J.P. Morgan Chase to eventually offer $10 a share for the firm. That represents about a $1 billion windfall to Bear Stearns shareholders, who should have been wiped out completely for owning an insolvent investment bank.
4.) Dodd/Countrywide Housing Bailout with Hidden Grassley Provision: Despite having received two VIP loans from Countrywide Financial, Senator Chris Dodd is still pushing a bill that would essentially bail them out. On top of that, buried deep inside this bill was a provision from Senator Charles Grassley that requires companies like PayPal, Amazon, etc., to track, aggregate, and report information on nearly every electronic transaction to the federal government.
5.) Bloated Farm Bill: Billions in subsidies that hurt taxpayers and play a role in the increasing price of food is only one of the many problems with the 2008 Farm Bill

There are many many sayings when it comes to people being armed or not. Generally, the only people that care about not carrying guns are the people that are the law abiding citizens. You are correct when you say that outlawing guns in any area is an open invitation for a criminal because it ensures that no one else will be armed.
If you outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns.
