Barack Obama has chosen Senator Joe Biden of Delaware to be his running mate, giving Barack Obama some much needed foreign policy credentials as well as a hot headed motor mouth known for making statements that cause an uproar. It was, after all, Joe Biden who bore the outrage of black leaders when he called Obama, "clean, bright, and articulate." Not that it matters much. He was also caught plagiarising while in law school, a revelation that forced him to drop out of his 1988 bid for the presidency.
His strength at debating is spurring speculation that Mitt Romney will be the McCain camp's top pick. But then again, the media also went on and on about Al Gore's stellar debate skills which I wasn't personally impressed with.
McCain can help himself by choosing Romney. Romney adds much needed economy credentials to his ticket, and does something for McCain that Biden does not do for Obama: he puts a state in play. Deleware will note vote for a Republican regardless of who the Vice Presidential nominee is. But Mitt Romney puts Michigan, his homestate, in play for McCain.
While I think Biden is one of the best choices Obama had, it doesn't make Biden a good choice for the ticket. Obama, running as a change candidate, has chosen a partner who has been in the Senate since before Obama was even in lawschool. Oh well. So much for change.
